School Liability

The attorneys at Northcraft Bigby have successfully provided defense services to school districts across the state of Washington in many extremely important areas affecting our children’s schools. Mark Northcraft, head of our public entities litigation team, has litigated and consulted for school districts for most of his career.

As a result of Mark’s experience as a litigator in catastrophic sports injuries, Mark developed the Comprehensive Athletic Safety Program for the Seattle Public Schools, which became a model of sports risk management in public schools across the state. Mark also consults with coaches and school district personnel regarding their programs and applicable risk management techniques.

In addition to handling school sports injuries, Northcraft Bigby has litigated a wide range of cases for school districts in Washington State, including playground injuries, disability discrimination, racial discrimination, wrongful termination, age/sex discrimination, defamation, improper supervision, and new issues affecting today’s schools – handcuffing of students, the right to education, and in-school shootings.
